MANAMA, Bahrain - Dec. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- BFG International W.L.L. (BFG), founded in Bahrain 40 years ago, today announced commencement of commercial-scale manufacturing of the Windstrip vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT), an integral part of Windstrip’s Hybrid Power System (HPS) that integrates the Windstrip VAWT with solar and other electricity production and storage systems.  Further, BFG announced that BFG and Windstrip are actively developing partnerships for the commercial deployment of the Windstrip HPS, initially focusing on the Middle East and Southwest Asia, including Pakistan.  The Windstrip HPS was a joint effort of academic and commercial partners in Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA, developed in concert with the University of Saint Thomas School of Engineering.

Viewed as a key next-generation energy solution with world-wide application across a broad array of industries, BFG chose to commence commercialization and industrialization of the Windstrip HPS at BFG International Headquarters in Mina Salman, Kingdom of Bahrain.

BFG and Windstrip first made contact in 2011 as a result of a trade mission of the Bahrain Economic Development Board to the State of Minnesota, in the United States.  During the trade mission, Dr. Samer Al Jishi, Group Managing Director of BFG, met Windstrip CEO and discussed the Windstrip HPS.  “I quickly grasped the commercial potential of the wind/solar hybrid renewable power system with its integration through Windstrip’s smart-electronics Intelligent & Dynamic Energy Addressing system (IDEAs).  I saw in the well-designed and integrated production, management, and delivery system a unique opportunity to expand BFG’s renewable energy business portfolio,” said Dr. Al Jishi.   BFG’s efforts toward the commercialization and industrialization of the Windstrip VAWT and HPS commenced in earnest in August 2013.  BFG has for over seven years been producing Spinners and Nacelles for horizontal axis wind turbines and has been committed to expanding its base of renewable energy products over the years.  Today, BFG is a supplier of Fiberglass Composites to GE, Gamesa, Leitwind, Hitachi, and now, Windstrip.

“During the industrialization process of the Windstrip VAWT, it became clear to me that the possibilities beyond its use in cell towers were enormous,” said BFG Group Executive Director, Mohamad Usman.  Mr. Usman, who has been instrumental in finding marketing partners for Windstrip in the Middle East and Southwest Asia, including Pakistan, added “BFG is excited to play such a pivotal role in the production and commercialization of the Windstrip systems, a unique and cutting-edge technology.”

“We at Windstrip are excited to be partnering with such an esteemed company as BFG.  Their experience, technical expertise, and professionalism are recognized throughout the world,” said Mr. Rouvinen, adding “BFG has assisted us immeasurably in our critical move from development to commercial-scale manufacturing and sale of our systems.  Achieving the move from development to commercialization and industrialization is a huge challenge for technology companies, and having a creative, dynamic, and entrepreneurial partner like BFG has been critical in making Windstrip’s energy solutions a market reality.”
