evolve return to the Nuclear Blackout Race

Sept. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Five employees from Shoeburyness based evolve took part in the Nuclear Blackout Race on the 20^th September 2014, to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity. The Nuclear Blackout Race takes place in Brentwood, Essex over a 5km obstacle course, through which competitors had two hours to complete as many laps as possible.

The evolve team completed a total of five laps, including a gruelling 30 obstacles which tested both strength and agility. Obstacles ranged from tyre pits to cargo crawls, trenches and pipes and for the first time, the 30 metre deep Kelvedon Hatch Secret Bunker, all whilst in the dark.

The team was made up of first time members Gregory Jones, Dean Newman and Duane Lansdale, and saw Lenka Ivanisinova and Tracy Duffield return for the second year in a row. Completing the race in the dark was a first time experience for all. Duane Lansdale was home first in time of 1 hour 20 minutes, quickly followed by Lenka Ivanisinova and Tracy Duffield 13 minutes later. Dean Newman was next at 1 hour 50 minutes with Greg Jones finishing in 2 hours 9 minutes.

Participant Tracy Duffield comments “ I took part in the race last year, it really is a physically challenging race but coming back and doing the race in the dark was new for us. Not being able to see well, you simply don’t know what to expect. It had rained overnight which made it even more challenging as the mud was thick everywhere.  The race is daunting at first but your adrenaline soon kicks in and despite the bruises and aches is actually good fun. You get a real sense of achievement once you finish. It was great to come back again this year and be involved with the team to raise money for a fantastic charity.”
