By: Emterra Group - Emterra Environmental The Regina MRF can throughput 55000 tons of recyclables every year thanks in large part to its “single stream” capabilities. This refers to the fact the facility can accept mixed recyclables from the communities served, and sorts them on-site rather than having residents and ICI clients separate their recyclables. Advanced mechanical and optical sorting technologies create sorting efficiencies, and thus throughput, at rates previously unattainable. What’s more, many of the recycled materials are processed into commodities that can be marketed as raw materials for new products. In its first operating year approximately 12,600 tons of material was processed coming from the City of Regina’s single stream waste collection program (60,000 households) plus other Saskatchewan communities and Emterra industrial-commercial clients. The latter include local businesses and multi-family buildings. Beyond materials recycling efficiency, Emterra is also recognized in the Resource Recycling Magazine “MRF of the Month” article (http://www.resource- Emterra Group (http://www.Emterra.ca) operates waste management divisions including Emterra Environmental, Emterra Tire Recycling, and Canadian Liquids processors. Emterra Environmental collects, processes and markets waste resources in more than 80 Canadian communities, serving 10% of the Canadian population. Emterra also operates Emterra Environmental USA (http://www.emterrausa.com) which provides waste disposal and recycling services to 50 municipalities and counties in mid-Michigan. End
