Los Cabos Children’s Charity Amigos De Los Niños Recaps May Audiology, Hearing Aid and ENT Clinic

LOS CABOS, Mexico - July 18, 2014 - PRLog -- Amigos de Los Niños (ADLN) is a charity operating in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  The charity’s mission is to provide support to families with children needing medical assistance to treat a variety of conditions and diseases. Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, is a very popular tourist destination, and although the city has made several large advancements with new hospitals, clinics and labs, there are still several areas in need of improvement. Additionally, the improvements made are in the private sector, but there is a large portion of the population that has no access to healthcare and does not even know where to turn.

“One of the major problems we see every day is parents with children who are sick, not knowing what to do or where to turn,” states Gay Thatcher, executive Director of Amigos de Los Niños.

“One of our main goals is creating awareness of what to look for in symptoms that are shown in children, so that parents can react quickly and seek help for their children as soon as possible,” continues Thatcher. “A large challenge parents face is that they are obviously afraid, but they do not have any clue on where to turn for help.”

Amigos de Los Niños works tirelessly to provide support to families in need, help children reach medical facilities for life-saving treatments, as well as plan and sponsor several clinics in the local community. From May 6-7 of 2014, the Audiology Clinic, Hearing Aid and ENT Clinic was a complete success. This particular clinic is one that ADLN helps plan annually. The ENT clinic is a popular clinic for Los Cabos locals to volunteer for, as watching mothers and fathers and most importantly, children hear for the first time is a special moment to say the least.

The clinic is always scheduled for two days, so that the U.S.-based doctors who have volunteered their time for over 10 years can visit patients. During the preliminary visits, children can be checked, fitted for hearing aids, and if needed, scheduled for surgery with local ENT’s to remove tonsils and adenoids, should this be needed. The May 2014 clinic resulted in 20 patients being seen and half of these patients already had hearing aids donated by ADLN.  Batteries were replaced and the units were adjusted.  The audiologists conducted 5 audio tests and 5 molds were taken as well.
