July 14, 2014 - PRLog -- The Agricultural Business and Technology Institute at Hartnell College is offering a new series of informational workshops called iAgriculture

SALINAS, Calif. – The Agricultural Business and Technology Institute at Hartnell College is offering a new series of informational workshops called iAgriculture.  iAgriculture offers an insider’s look at the vibrant agriculture industry in Salinas Valley through hands-on activities, field trips, and conversations with professionals in the field. Participants will visit a diverse range of local ag-related businesses, from strawberry growers, flower production companies, and vegetable transplant operations; to laboratories and research facilities; to companies focused on processing and handling, fabrication, packaging, trucking and transportation, and marketing.

iAgriculture aims to increase students’ awareness of the wide array of career options in agriculture, the different paths they can take in pursuit of those careers, and the relevant classes and certificate/degree programs offered at Hartnell College. For example, Hartnell’s East Alisal Campus provides courses in Ag Business, Ag Production, Ag Technology, Food Safety, Pest Management, Welding Technology, and Diesel Technology. Participants will learn that agriculture is an industry that encompasses just about every type of profession: law, engineering, science, computer science, construction, communications and marketing, human resources, real estate, government, non-profit, education… the opportunities are endless!

The iAgriculture series includes a 5-day session in August and monthly/bi-monthly half-day sessions in the Fall. Any current or incoming Hartnell students as well as local high school students who have an interest in agriculture are welcome to attend, free of charge. To sign up for the August 4-8 session, please contact Kristen Arps at karps@hartnell.edu or 831-755-6798, or register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/iagriculture-hartnell-college-tickets-12198497033.
