Largo, Md., May 22, 2014 – Retail Properties of America, Inc. (NYSE- RPAI or the “Company”) announced that The Boulevard at the Capital Centre (“BLVD”) was awarded a Silver U.S. MAXI Award for marketing excellence in the retail real estate industry by the International Council of Shopping Centers ("ICSC"). ICSC announced the winners of the 2014 U.S. MAXI Awards during a ceremony at the RECon Convention on May 18, 2014, at the Encore Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. The annual awards ceremony recognizes the premier marketing, community outreach, and sales promotions undertaken by U.S. based retail real estate professionals and companies.

"We are honored to be recognized among our peers who demonstrate the highest caliber of marketing excellence and achievement within the retail real estate industry," said Niall J. "Our marketing programs represent the collaboration with retailers and local organizations to drive traffic for our shopping centers and add value to RPAI for our shareholders," he said.

Inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" initiative and Chi Chi Monet, an 11-year-old rapper, The BLVD partnered with Sports Zone Elite and Think Brown INK to deliver the "#GetKidsMovin @ShopCapCentre" public relations campaign and two afternoons of fashion, fitness and fun to children and families within the community. The campaign generated nearly 4,063,000 online impressions with news coverage, event listings and posts on popular media outlets and blogs for the shopping center.

Professional recognition for this award was given to Calista Black, marketing manager, The Boulevard at the Capital Centre; Dana Hill, administrative assistant, The Boulevard at the Capital Centre; Kenneth Baker, general manager, The Boulevard at the Capital

Centre; Mara Russiaky, assistant vice president, Retail Properties of America, Inc.; and John Mastrianni, vice president, Sports Zone Elite. The shopping center acknowledges its community partners Think Brown INK and Chi Chi Monet for their contributions to the campaign.

In 2012, The Boulevard at the Capital Centre received the ICSC Foundation U.S. Community Support Award that honors corporate social responsibility and community outreach efforts of shopping centers for its "BLVD CommUNITY Benefits Program".
