Follow on Google News | Save The Oak Ridges Moraine Coalition WalkSTORM (Save the Oak Ridges Moraine) Coalition is approaching its 25th year of defending the Oak Ridges Moraine — the rain barrel of clean drinking water for over 250,000 people and 65 river and streams in Ontario.
The walk and picnic occurred through the Fleetwood Conservation Area situated next door to the first approved large scale wind project, Sumac Ridge, located on the Oak Ridges Moraine. Father Goose, Bill Lishman, flew his small aircraft overhead to provide us with aerial view photographs of this protected landscape. This project is in a high aquifer vulnerability zone, a groundwater recharge area and at the headwaters of the Fleetwood Creek and Pigeon River. The Ontario government's vision for the Oak Ridges Moraine is that of "a continuous band of green rolling hills that provides form and structure to south-central Ontario, while protecting the ecological and hydrological features and functions that support the health and well-being of the region's residents and ecosystems." STORM shares the above-mentioned Ontario government's vision for the Oak Ridges Moraine and has been listening carefully to citizens on the moraine regarding the siting of large-scale energy infrastructure projects. In support of these communities and concerned citizens on the Oak Ridges Moraine "We do not support the development of large scale industrial energy infrastructure projects on protected landscapes such as the Oak Ridges Moraine, Niagara Escarpment or the Protected Countryside Areas of the Greenbelt." https://www.youtube.com/ http://www.chextv.com/ End
