Avon, MA—The Dana Barros Basketball Club, whose Grand Opening is set for April 19th, came about as a result of Dana Barros’ realization that confidence-building and skill-building are fundamental to a young person’s development.

The former NBA player worked his way out of the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston and began his NBA basketball career in 1989. By 2003, Barros was already assistant coaching for his hometown team, the Boston Celtics.  Barros’ transition from player to coach was an eye-opening experience that prompted him to explore the field of coaching and sports education and in 2006, he took on the role of Director of Recreation for the city of Boston.  “I wasn’t a basketball player,” Dana says, “I just played basketball.”  He wanted to use his own story as an example: “If I could make it big from humble beginnings after training hard and working hard, why shouldn’t other young people be able to?”

The Dana Barros Basketball Club will host a number of different opportunities for young men and women and boys and girls to improve their basketball skills, learn the value of teamwork, and have fun.  From regular skills clinics to tournaments and championships, participants will have countless opportunities to work with Dana himself to hone their ball-handling, shooting and passing skills.

The Grand Opening for the Dana Barros Basketball Club will take place on April 19th, at 6 Kiddie Road in Avon, MA - just in time for the start of the NBA playoffs - and will include guest appearances and entertainment to start the season off right.

About the Dana Barros

Dana Barros earned much recognition after setting an NBA record of making at least one three-pointer in 89 consecutive games from December 23, 1994 through January 10, 1996.  After fifteen years playing in the NBA, Barros turned to coaching and serving as a “basketball insider” for the New England Sports Network (NESN).  Barros’ new endeavor, the Dana Barros Basketball Club, will be an arena for the athlete to employ his teaching skills and give valuable insight on the game of basketball.
