ATV Insurance: Important Protection for ATV Owners

While many ATV enthusiasts underestimate the importance of ATV insurance, accidents can happen at any time, making the need for insurance especially crucial.

Jan. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- Since they were first introduced to the US in the 1970’s, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) have become a popular addition to many households. Popular for recreational activities as well as work-related tasks, ATVs have become a mainstay in American culture, and have become a practical –and enjoyable- addition to many people’s lives.

Along with their increase in popularity however, has also come an increase in ATV accidents and ATV-related injuries. According to recent statistics, ATV-related injuries accounted for more than 107,000 emergency room visits in 2011.

As any ATV enthusiast knows, operating an ATV is dangerous. Part of the fun with ATVs is the excitement of operating them, but this enjoyment comes at a cost: the chance of an accident. The prevalence of ATV-related accidents shows an increasingly important need for ATV insurance, but for many ATV owners, the importance of an ATV insurance policy is often overlooked. Others simply assume that their ATV is covered under their home insurance policy –but this isn’t always the case. Homeowners insurance usually will not extend to provide complete protection. In most cases, homeowners insurance will not provide coverage for medical expenses or liability coverage for an injured third party. This applies regardless of whether the ATV itself is covered under the home insurance policy.

Frank Hursh, owner of Texas Insurance Agency, outlines the importance of ATV insurance, and reminds owners that an ATV policy will provide coverage for more than just the ATV itself. “An insurance policy can help to protect your ATV in case of damage, but it isn’t just your ATV that will be covered with insurance, insurance is an important part of protecting you from liability should your ATV cause damage to someone else’s property.”

Rides of any kind can quickly turn dangerous. ATV insurance policies can be created to include a degree of coverage for medical expenses, in case of the unexpected.

Additionally, insurance may be required if the ATV is going to be ridden in public parks.

“In some cases, ATV insurance is required if you take your ATV off your property,” Hursh reminds ATV owners. “Additionally, many public parks require you to have ATV insurance if you want to ride the trails.”

Texas Insurance Agency provides ATV coverage for ATV owners in Katy, Houston, Cypress, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Fulshear, Richmond, Sealy, Fairfield, and Tomball, Texas.
