The speciality of Nepali Pashmina better known as Cashmere is that it is manufactured from the fine hair of sheep found in the Himalayan Mountains of high altitude. These sheep grow a thick mane of hair just before the winter sets in and then sheds it in the spring. Just before it does so, the hair is sheared from the sheep and the fine hair is separated from the lot.

This wool then is dyed and spun into fine yarn usually by hand by the rural women of Nepal which is then sold and sent to the market where weavers buy the yarn and woven into colourful designed shawls, wraps, cardigans, scarves and other winter accessories.
