KOLKATA, India - Oct. 31, 2013 - PRLog -- Dooars has some of the best untouched and unspoiled destinations, which may be small in terms of area, but offer unparalleled escape from the city life. Jayanti is certainly among them. Loved by people around the region, this is among the most heavily forested regions of Dooars, and there are some amazing aspects of this place. What makes it even more popular among the people is the fact that it is exceptionally close to the Buxa Tiger Reserve, which is the home to the Royal Bengal Tiger.

What to expect: The place gets its name from the Jayanti River, which offers an amazing sense of relaxation to the senses. The tour to the gorgeous Buxa Tiger Reserve is breathtaking with elephants, deers and other animals spotted every now and then. One can reach the reserve and take a trek to the historic Buxa Fort, which one served as a prison for the freedom fighters and has been used by Bangladeshi refugees. You can also take a tour of the Pokhri Hill at 4kms away from Jayanti, which is home to a small pond that is considered to be holy by the locals of the region. What makes it even more fun that reaching these places requires trekking through the dense forests, which is an adventurous and spine-chilling experience.

For those who like religious part of India, they can go to the beautiful cave that has been dedicated to Lord Shiva in a place called Mahakal. On the hike tour, you can expect to see some amazing birds. Bhutia Basti, which is around 1.5kms, is also a great place for elephant viewing. A tour to the beautiful world of Totopara is also advisable as this is the home to the small tribe Toto and their amazing life that survives on houses that are above the ground level.

When to come in Jayanti: Like many parts of the region, Jayanti remains inaccessible in the monsoons when the roads are difficult. Also, if you are looking for jungle safaris, the monsoon is a season to avoid. The best times are between October and May, when the weather is good. The winter months between November and February can be extremely cold, so pack your bags well with warm clothes.

How to reach: The nearest airport to Jayanti is the Bagdogra Airport at Siliguri at a distance of 200kms. The nearest railway station is Alipurduar at 30kms, but if you have the time, you can take a tour of the beautiful local areas by taking a car from Siliguri. The place can also be reached from Cooch Behar and Jaldapara.

Stay here: There are many resorts and government run options to opt for accommodation, but if you are new here, you might consider taking a complete trip. Tour operators and agents will not only assist you with the accommodation, but they can also arrange for safaris and guides to make the most of the region. You can also choose to take local sightseeing trips, but the best way to travel is to have a guide.
