ICEF Education Fund supports teacher training in Zimbabwe

By: ICEF

BONN, Germany - Sept. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- The ICEF Education Fund is pleased to announce its support of the Zimbabwe Rural Schools Development Programme (ZRSDP).

James Herbertson of The Stay Club, UK, has been involved in the ZRSDP project for many years, helping to raise funds and awareness for education programmes and resources in rural Zimbabwe. It gives us great pleasure to join James in supporting the ZRSDP in promoting quality education where it is needed most.

The ZRSDP aims to improve the education of children in rural Zimbabwe through providing resources for schools, as well as, among other things, teacher training and support. The ZRSDP’s focus is to reach the remote communities that do not receive government assistance or support from other charities.

Since 2007 the number of qualified teachers in Zimbabwe has significantly dropped. This is a result of a shortage of funds, serious epidemics such as Aids and Cholera, and the migration of skilled workers to more stable economies. In rural Zimbabwe, this shortage is even more drastic, with most teachers not having the appropriate training. After identifying this problem, the ZRSDP launched their first teacher training course in 2011. Since then two more trainings have taken place and an additional two are planned for 2013.

ICEF’s donation of $2000 will fund a teaching training programme for 20 teachers in the village of Chidamoyo. This includes tutors’ salary, accommodation and food, all course materials and transportation.

By supporting the ZRSDP teacher training programme, ICEF is helping to ensure that the children of Chidamoyo village are exposed to quality education, as well as making sure that the teachers are properly equipped to pass on knowledge to future generations.

ICEF would like to encourage the education community to support this and/or any of our 11 projects.
