Dubai, United Arab emirates, 10 September, 2013 – On September 15, Jabra, the world’s leading manufacturer of wireless audio solutions, will launch the ‘Drivers’ Safety’ campaign in Dubai, in cooperation with the Dubai Taxi Corporation – part of the Roads & Transport Authority, government of Dubai. In line with the global adage promoting safe driving, Jabra UAE will give BT2045 headsets to 500 DTC drivers.

Jabra will host competitions for the entire month (Sep. 15 – Oct. 15) on the Jabra UAE Facebook page. There will be 20 winners selected, and given the Jabra Drive and the Jabra Easygo as gifts. The campaign will also be announced on 50 DTC Taxis. The Jabra BT2045 is a simple to use Bluetooth headset, designed to make wireless calling easy with its intuitive and user friendly design, easy pairing process, and multi-use feature.

Jabra is cooperating with Dubai Taxi Corporation in UAE, to promote safe and handsfree driving through their taxis. Supporting the Drivers’ Safety campaign, DTC Acting CEO Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi says, “DTC is committed to ensure and enhance drivers’ and passengers’ safety, working very hard on enforcing and training our drivers on traffic safety. Taxis play an important role in society, which is why we believe we have a responsibility towards ensuring safety on the roads. Joint marketing campaigns such as this, make our drivers’ work easier and safer, and are a great opportunity to raise safety awareness.”

“In 2010, DTC has launched its Traffic Safety Award with notions of 'No to Traffic Offences, No to Accidents, No to Quality Offences', where 15 distinguished Taxi drivers are awarded based on a strict evaluation process that aims at educating the drivers about safe driving, as well as raise DTC’s operational efficiency.” Adds Mr. Al Hammadi, “This award also helps in guiding DTC drivers and encouraging them to abide by traffic regulations and to stay alert while on the road. According to our Salamatak (Traffic Safety) internal team, the red accident rate has reduced from 0.61 in 2008 to 0.27 in 2012.”

He also points out that DTC prohibits the Driver from holding a mobile phone in his hand, other than to pass the phone to the passenger, while the vehicle is moving or stationary (but not parked). The penalty for mobile phone use is three demerit points (or four if the offence occurs in a school zone) plus a fine.

“We aim at helping the Drivers in Dubai, drive safely on the road without the distraction of a hand-held device. Jabra understands that it is not safe to use a hand-held device while driving, and neither is it legal. However, there are times when we have to make calls while driving, and Jabra’s Bluetooth headsets and in-car speakerphones connect with all mobile devices, offering the driver a handsfree conversation,” says Ahmed Elkalliny, Area Director at Jabra.

Jabra offers a few safe driving tips:

·         Always use a handsfree device if you have to take or make calls while driving

·         Prepare for every journey. Do ensure that your headset or speakerphone is switched on and connected before you start driving, so you are ready to answer any unexpected calls.

·         If it is not necessary, please avoid talking on the phone. If making calls while driving is necessary, ensure that your commonly used numbers are programmed into your headset so that you aren’t distracted while driving.

·         Setup voice activated dialing on your hands free solution so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road to dial an entire number.

·         Keep your calls short, and avoid having any difficult or emotional conversations while driving.

·         Always remember, driving comes first, not the conversation. Give priority to driving and deliberately make it a point to indicate and look over your shoulder even while you are talking.

Jabra devices enable users to derive the full audio experience with all the flexibility- and efficiency benefits they expect from mobile devices and Unified Communication solutions through enhanced voice collaboration.
