Underfloor Heating is it really efficient ?

Can the flat ribbon underfloor heating help reduce the average households energy costs while fuel prices constantly go up?

MOLD, Wales - March 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Can the flat ribbon underfloor heating help reduce the average households energy costs while fuel prices constantly go up?

Well the answer is YES!!, Mr and Mrs White have converted their old 120m2Victorian property with the help of their 3 children into the "Eco home" and what is more they have a vision to take it much further.

With their monthly energy bills only being £32.00 at present including service charges it shows a massive saving and proves it is possible to save money while energy prices rocket through the roof.

The method is quite simple, the Victorian property was brick on brick construct meaning there was no cavity to install insulation.

The steps taken to resolve the insulation was to stick 20mm Easy-Heat insulation on the inside of the external walls and then apply plasterboard over the top of that.

The walls were then finished with a skim of plaster then decorated as normal.

The floors also had no insulation so a 6mm layer of Therm-All insulation was laid down. On top of the insulation the Allbrite Energy Efficient Ribbon Underfloor Heating was laid and then engineered wood boards laid on top of the heating.

Now with no need for radiators it actually gave the rooms the illusion of additional space, although, you would expect it to look smaller with the additional insulation.

Each room has been fitted with low energy dimmable GU10 down lighters, this means the electricity that was once used just for the lounge can now light the whole house.

The final part of this was to add the solar water heating system that generates all the hot water for the family, this includes water for showers, baths, washing, etc.

Even in the winter the system will pre-heat the water and then the immersion will heat the water the rest of the way.

Now the household energy bill is only £32 a month this gives them that little bit more to spend on things they enjoy.

In effects if the White's add a 1KW array of solar PV panels the running costs will be so low that it is highly likely they would always be in credit with no monthly costs.

The White's next project is a totally off grid dual purpose domestic dwelling with commercial units where wind turbines, solar PV, solar water heating, grey water harvesting, etc. will be used in the project.
