The Volkswagen e-up! goes lekkie

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 15, 2013 - DUBLIN, Ireland -- Volkswagen’s first fully electric production vehicle, the new 4-seater 60kw/82PS e-up! has just made its appearance. Weighing in at 1,185kgs, it comes with a driving range of 150 km via its lithium-ion battery, which is integrated in the under-floor area, and is obviously a car best suited for daily use in the city, or those with a short commute or maybe as a second car. VW state that it can be recharged to as much as 80% of its energy storage capacity within 30 minutes.
Its continuous power is 40kW/55PS, with the immediate availability of 210Nm of torque from the off.

The port for charging the battery in the e-up! is hidden behind the “fuel door”. As an option, the Combined Charging System (CCS) is used, which has been standardised by Volkswagen and other carmakers. It supports both DC and AC charging, so that drivers can easily charge their cars at most charging stations – regardless of the power sources or charging rates that they offer.

The e-up! carries is own styling cues, the LED daytime running lights curved layout particularly distinctive. It sits on polished 15” alloys, wears the VW emblems in blue background, and the front end, sills and underbody have all been aerodynamically optimised.

On the inside, it features e-up! light-grey seat covers with blue top-stitched seams. There is also special leather and chrome accents used to emphasie that this is a dedicated urban electric car.

The e-up! will celebrate its fair premiere at the International Autoshow in Frankfurt and is expected to go on sale in Ireland in early 2014.
