Small Business Development Center-Belize

Dec. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- In Belize, the small business community, known as MSME-(Micro, Small, and Medium enterprises) is a vital sector for economic development. It is estimated that MSMEs account for over 70% of main export crops and an even higher percentage of domestic food crops.  It is within this spectrum that the Government of Belize has strengthened its focus on supporting the development of the MSME Sector.

The SBDC model is an approach that the United States utilizes for providing technical and managerial assistance to the MSME sector. The SBDC model has also been successfully implemented across Central America, with El Salvador opening approximately 14 centers across its territory and Costa Rica, having up to five centers up to date.

As a pursuit to accomplish its mission to create economic prosperity through entrepreneurial development, business innovation, and competiveness, the center offers advisory and training services.  These two components aim to develop and improve MSMEs’ competitiveness and export readiness.

How is the SBDC beneficial to you?

The provision of long term one-on-one assistance to SBDC clients is of priority to us.   You can receive assistance from a counselor at any point in your business operation.  The technical trainings and advisory services provide YOU, our valued SBDC client, with technical information at workshops, and ensured implementation through personal follow up advice from a counselor to answer any questions.
