Nov. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- On August 9, Time Magazine featured the story of Bibi Aisha, an Afghan teen whose husband cut off her nose and ears after she attempted to run away. She received this punishment, notably with the approval from the Taliban, from her abusive husband. She now arrived in the US to receive medical treatment and plastic surgery in Los Angeles after Rebecca Grossman saw her on TV.

The co-director of the Grossman Burn Center and husband of Rebecca Grossman, Dr Peter H Grossman stated that “The foundation paid to bring Aisha to Los Angeles, found a host family for her to stay with and is funding her treatment. That could include a prosthetic nose or reconstruction of her nose and ears using bone, tissue and cartilage from the rest of her body.”

At the age of 12, Aisha had been given away by her parents to pay off a debt and was married to a Taliban fighter. She ran away from her husband but he was able to track her down last year. He cut off her nose as punishment and left for dead. Bibi Aisha’s story was published in an article in Time Magazine. She was able to make her way to a shelter where she stayed before the Grossmans learned of her situation.

The Women for Afghan Women runs the shelter that cared for Aisha in Kabul. The non-profit organization uses Bibi Aisha’s case to show what could probably happen to the women in Afghanistan without international aids and forces.

Women for Afghan Women Executive Director Manizha Naderi wrote “Bibi Aisha decided to put her damaged face before the world to show what ordeals, and worse, millions of women and girls in Afghanistan will suffer if the Taliban take over the country.”

"We worry about her sister, who was destined to the same hell that Bibi endured: being handed over as payment to another family," Naderi stated. "We worry that Bibi's father has replaced the now-missing Bibi with another girl."

Dr Sam Jejurikar of http://www.mybreastaugmentationdallas.com/, a Dallas-based plastic surgeon, said “The wounds that Bibi Aisha have run deeper but with the kindred heart of people concerned about her situation, plastic surgery and medical intervention could give her new hope.”

Bibi Aisha is now being situated in Los Angeles in preparation for her surgeries and treatment which will be performed in Grossman Burn Center in West Hills.
