Innovative has been servicing the Eastern seaboard with road de-icing and dust control products since 1996 through local distribution partners. As their operations expanded, their search for a centralized base became apparent and in 2008, when they stumbled upon the old Texaco property, negotiations began that resulted in Innovative transforming the derelict property into a fully functional and completely American operated liquid magnesium distribution center.
Liquid magnesium chloride is the key ingredient in many of the environmentally friendlier products which also contain sugar based additives, and Innovative has been instrumental in introducing these alternatives to the North American market since 1996.
On Thursday, October 11th, the sky cleared and the sun shined as owner Greg Baun welcomed all to the event. A detailed historical account of what brought Innovative to this momentous occasion led Mr. Baun to proclaim that,
"This has been the highlight of my career. I am so very proud of all the hard work and dedication gone into transforming this property. Let there be no mistake, but this has been a truly international achievement, and I cannot thank our American and Canadian Teams as well as our international partners enough for their contribution in making my vision come true."
Proceeding Greg’s speech we had the pleasure of hearing from Roger Knoph of EnviroTech Services Inc., Shannon Larson of National Grid, John Clarkson of the Town of Bethlehem and Daniel McCoy of the County of Albany. The following are excerpts from their speeches.
"This is my first time visiting the facility and I am truly impressed with its transformation into a fully automated and functional all season road maintenance distribution center." -Roger Knoph, President ESI
"National Grid is thrilled at such a successful use of a property that had long been vacant. Innovative Surface Solutions is a great tenant!" -Shannon Larson, Director of Real Estate Transactions
"We welcome the infusion of much needed dollars into our local economies as well as the employment of local citizens." -John Clarkson, Town Supervisor
"Companies like Innovative Surface Solutions are the engine that drives our economy. Its commitment to its employees, products and customers make Innovate Surface Solutions a strong and valuable member of our community." -Daniel McCoy, Albany County Executive
Shortly after the speeches, all gathered for the official ribbon cutting ceremony where in addition to the above mentioned presenters, Bill Flaherty of National Grid, Daren Crawford of ISSUS, Rich Mendick Legislator for the 36th District, Kyle Kotary Bethlehem Town Board Member, Jennifer Kilcoyne of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce and Pat Berrigan of Harris Beach witnessed the latest addition to the Innovative Team, a very shiny 42ft tanker, launch its maiden drive through the official exit gates. A buffet lunch was served that was topped off by a delicious molasses based gingerbread cake with mascarpone cream, created by Nicole’s, and then personalized tours were lead by TWIC certified Innovative staff.
It definitely appears that their road to success is paved with a little sweetness…and you can count on Innovative to be Ready When Nature Strikes. Guaranteed.
