.home to 1.5 crore people its big and its growing .the national capital territory which marks the city limits encompasrayher than ses 1483 square kilometer ,but burgeoning suburbs like Faridabad,Gurgaon and noida are expanding beyond its parameter into the neighbouring state of harayana  and uttar Pradesh (UP)  yet tucked away inside delhi’s modern suburb and developments are tombs, temples and ruins that date back centuries; in some areas the re,mains of whole cities from the dim and distant past nestle among homes and highways built in the last two decade.even you will find the touch of rural india,in the form of villages where life appears to carry on its sleepy way,as if they were still out in the countryside  rather than the slap wang in the middle of one of the world’s most dynamic metropolis.the result in a city is full of fascination nooks and crannies that you could happily spend weeks or even months exploring if you have mind-or the time-to.you certainly wont run out of things to do.quite apart from its historical building.delhi has a host of museums and art treasures, while cultural performances and crafts provide a showcase for the entire country’s diverse heritage.shops trade in goods from every corner of india and with a little legwork you can find anything.

From a tourist poit of view delhi divides in two main parts old delhi and new delhi.old delhi is the city of mughals, created by shah jahan and dating back to the seventeeth century.its the capital most frenetic qualhirter and its most Islamic, areminder  that for over seven hundred years, delhi was a muslim city, ruled by sultans.to its south encompassing the modern city centre is new delhi, built by the british to be the capital of their empire key possession. A spacious city of tree lined boulevards, new delhi is impressive in its own way;the rajpath, stretching from india gate to the presidential place is atleast as mighty a statement of imperial power as old delhi’s red fort.but today, delhi is spreading southward, and as the city expands-which it is doing at quite a pace-the centre of new delhi is becoming too small to house the shop, clubs, bars and restaurants needed to cater to its affluent and growing middle class.thus many business are moving into south delhi, the vast area beyond the colonical city ,where, among the modern developments and new business and shopping areas, you will find the medieval city that preceded old delhi.

Arrival in Delhi

Delhi is the main point of arrival for overseas visitors and the major transport hub for north india.containg the country main international airport as well as four long distance railway stations and three intercity bus terminals.

By Air

Indira Gandhi international (IGI) Airport-20 km southwest of the centre has three seprate terminals

From the international airport the easiest way to get into delhi is by taxi, particulary advisable if you arrive late night.there are several official prepaid taxi kiosks in the taxi area outside the arrival hall.the fare will be Rs 250 to the city centre, with 25 % surcharge between 11 pm to 5 AM. So you might check a before plumping.its worth nothing, however, these pre paid drivers may try to take you hotels not of your choice.

By Train

Delhi has two major railway stations.new delhi stations is at the eastern end of paharganj main bazaar, with in easy walking distance of many of the areas budget hotels.the station has two exits:take the paharganj exit for cannaught place and most points south, and ajmeri gate exit for old delhi.

By Bus

State Buses pull in at the maharana pratap inter state bus terminal (ISBT) north of old delhi railway station.Auto Rikshwas to new delhi or paharganj take about fifteen minutes, cycle rickshaws takes twice that.there’s prepaid auto rickshwas pre paid booth at the terminal and also metro station ( Kashmeere Gate)

City Transport

Even with the addition of metro system, public transport in delhi is inadequate for the city population and size and car increased car ownership is adding to the general chaos.cows have been banned from much of central delhi, but not the city in more tradationsl districts.in an effort to reduce pollution, the city buses ,taxis and auto rickshwas have all now been converted from petrol and diesel to run on compressed Natural Gas (CNG)

But most inner city thoroughfares are still coked with exhaust fumes and congested.

Accommodation

Delhi has vast range of accommodation from dirt cheap lodges to extravagant international hotels.its luxury hotels are as good as you will get anywhere in the world and in terms of service in particular often far superior to their counter parts in the west, while the mid range hotels offer unbeatable value for money though to have to pick and choose.booking for upmarket hotels can be made at airport and railway stations tourist desks, but even http://www.godwindeluxe.com  budget hotels can be booked by phone or email, though its often and go weather such bookings will be honoured if you turn up late in the day.don’t believe touts, taxi drivers or auto wallahas telling you there are no rooms in your hotel and avoid the places they recommend in karol bagh.most hotels in delhi have noon checkout time.
