In January 2012, a group of Toronto developers & brokers started developing a free online service aimed at helping Canadian insurance shoppers compare auto insurance rates without the headache of being on stuck on the phone for hours on end. This group named their project after their sole mission, Find Cheaper Insurance.

When asked how Find Cheaper Insurance came to be, company blogger and co-founder BD Williams answered,
"I have worked in personal lines insurance for a few years now and I am still shocked at how few people shop their car insurance around on a regular basis, mostly because of what a pain it is. I have clients who have tried to shopping around with online services like InsuranceHuneter.ca, but found the online applications difficult to get through."
That's where Williams came up with the idea of offering their visitors the option on requesting an over the phone quote, or the traditional method of completing their own application.
With Find Cheaper Insurance, if a visitor request an over the phone quote they will be immediately be contacted with a broker who will gill them an insurance quote over the phone. If a person completes an online application, their information is shared with up to three insurance brokers, who will contact the visitor with a competitive auto insurance quote.
"We wanted people to have the freedom to choose of how they wanted to compare auto insurance. We didn't want our visitors to feel overwhelmed when using our service."
