Follow on Google News | A Novel Way to Enter the World of Digital TechnologyMs Carlton has written for theatre, television and as a journalist. She has also worked for the University of Bath and the relationship charity 'Relate'. Now living just outside of Bath, she said "I wanted to know if I could write a novel as a technical exercise, it is so different from writing a play or press article. I wanted to tell the story of four women, all of whom have had difficult childhoods and have been affected by the memories and actions of the one man that links them all together" The story uses the period of the second world war and the real life occurrence of soldiers being bombed in Crete, their means of escape and the consequences for those that get away versus those that had to stay behind. There are some scenes in the book that could be considered to be sexually explicit for which Ms Carlton explains "there is little point in writing about sex and not being honest, the book is in parts about the abuse of power within sexual relationships" Now working on her next novel, which will be set in a London university, Ms Carlton believes she has found a way to publish her books that does not depend on the approval of anyone other than her readers.
