Shabdkoshish™ - Hindi gets contemporary boost with free online gaming

Word games have a proven impact on the engagement and popularisation of languages. Shabdkoshish has set out to do exactly this, for Hindi! In the spirit of this quest, Shabdkoshish is free on the internet, easy to play for all – from students to experts, intelligently edutaining, and great fun!!

There are 4 levels of difficulty to choose from, in shabdkoshish – Easy, Medium, Difficult and Competition. The objective of the game is to make as many valid inter-connected words in the time permissible, and score the maximum possible points. All possible Hindi words can be made using all the letters, all matras and all half consonants, in the shabdkoshish game system. Every letter and symbol has points, which add to the score whenever valid words are made. Proper nouns, and the few words not in the database, are considered invalid. This can be checked by clicking on the score button; whereby the score and a list of valid & invalid words show up. The steadily growing shabdkoshish Hindi online word database, currently has about 70,000 unique words, and offers a rather good spell check. Efforts to improve this database are ongoing. Medium, Difficult and Competition levels have fixed time durations, run by a timer. The game freezes after the time is over and the score and valid/invalid words are displayed. Players can check their scores and the validity/invalidity of their words any time.

Alongside, membership registration on the shabdkoshish site is free, and members can start their own Hindi blogs, and customize their game parameters. Members will soon be able to participate in the shabdkoshish™ chunouti series – the first ever, international, Hindi online word game challenges, to be announced soon. This unique online competition system will enable an unlimited number of registered participants  to compete in a synchronised online Hindi word game competition, at the same time(Indian Standard Time) on the same day, from wherever they are in the world! A first ever series of online inter-school/university Hindi word game competitions will be announced soon, too!

The shabdkoshish™ Hindi online word game is based on a unique linguistic system; published over a decade ago by Ashim Ghosh, multiple media artist from New Delhi; which enables many south Asian languages; Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Urdu and more; to be played in contemporary word game formats.
