By: Africa Venture Safaris Mount Kenya, the second highest peak in Africa sits pretty close in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro that lies 320 km away in the south and is clearly visible on a clear day. Located on the equator at a height of 5199 meters above sea level, the mountain has three peaks Batian, Nelion and point Lenana. Among these three peaks only point Lenana can be reached by the trekkers and other two point is only for technical climbers. Visitors may prefer Mount Kilimanjaro for trekking due to the possibility of summiting through several non-technical trekking routes but trekking at Mount Kenya offers diverse climbing possibilities on snow, rock and ice. We, at Africa Venture Safaris, not only provide superb climbing potential on Mount Kenya but we also let the trekkers enjoy its tarns and alpine meadows, high-altitude vegetation, sun birds, hyrax and soaring eagles that make their walk around the peaks as the most amazing expedition in the East African mountains. People at Mount Kenya trekking get to walk through the cultivated farmlands, rain forest, areas having many species of trees, bamboo zone growing to more than 12 m heights and open moor land before finally reaching the higher slopes moonscape. The forest are rich in wildlife having elephant, buffalo, monkeys along with mammals like rock hyrax. Some of the Mount Kenya trekking routes on which we provide guidance and assistance to the visitors for the successful trekking include: Naro Moru Route – This route is considered as the fastest route to reach point Lenana but is not quite scenic as the Chogoria Route and Sirimon route. Naro Moru route is crowded with trekkers all through the year as it is popular compared to the other two routes. Chogoria Route – This most scenic route passes through the enchanting Hall Tarns and cliffs into the Gorges Valley and onto the Lake Michaelson. Chogoria is the most interesting of the three main routes of the Mount Kenya. Sirimon Route – Sirimon is the least used route of the Mount Kenya having the most gradual ascent and good acclimatisation options. Above all this route is on the drier side of the mountain and it passes through Yellow Wood forest and features abundant wildlife and beautiful alpine scenery in the upper side.
