Ahmed Salim to Speak at East Africa Business Summit And Expo SA 2012

Principle author of State Of East Africa Report to share insights on East Africa's intergration and its impact on business

April 24, 2012 - PRLog -- The East Africa Business Summit announced today that Ahmed Salim; will be a speaker at the upcoming East Africa Business Summit and Expo SA to be held on July 20th 2012. He will speak on the topic “East Africa: The Facts and Figures”

Ahmed Salim is a program officer with the Society For International Development (SID) and principal author of The State of East Africa Report 2012: Deepening Integration, Intensifying Challenges. At SID, his primary responsibility and areas of expertise include East Africa’s regional integration process as well as economic, political and security analysis of the Greater Horn of East Africa. He is also responsible for researching and writing monthly newsletters for the Rockefeller Foundation’s Searchlight Program that focuses on trends shaping the region with a specific look at insight and foresight.  

Prior to joining SID, Ahmed worked as a Research Coordinator with the Millennium Cities Initiative (MCI) at the Jeffery Sachs-led Earth Institute at Columbia University. His responsibilities included conducting needs assessments on the designated millennium cities and finding out whether these cities would be able to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. At MCI, Ahmed published two needs assessments on gender issues in Kisumu, Kenya and Kaduna, Nigeria.

Ahmed has a Master of International Affairs (MIA) degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs with a focus on International Security Policy. He received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) in International Relations from Lehigh University. Ahmed currently resides in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.  His address will provide a detailed breakdown of the makeup of the East African Community as it moves towards deeper integration.

This year’s summit will cover areas such as Transport and infrastructure in the region and its effect on doing business, governments and business, and implications of the global downturn on East Africa as a whole as it moves towards deepening integration of the five East African countries. Registration is now open for the annual summit intended to bring together business men and women from the five East African countries and the SADC region to showcase what opportunities for investment exist in the respective countries and also give companies from East Africa an opportunity to grow business linkages with South African and other companies so as to be able to have access to various markets. The summit is set for the Hilton Sandton.
