ParlAmericas (formerly known as FIPA - Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas) and the Organization of American States today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which establishes a framework to enhance cooperation and interaction in areas of common concern, in particular, democracy, legal systems, and the rule of law.

The MOU identifies areas of cooperation between the two institutions relating to databases, ParlAmericas’
* On September 9, 2011, FIPA became ParlAmericas. The change followed a decision taken at the 7 Plenary Assembly in 2010, and more than a year of research and discussion with numerous FIPA constituents, including parliamentarians, stakeholders, staff and external consultants. The new name will be effective March 10, 2012, after a six months transition period where FIPA-ParlAmericas will be used.
