Jan. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- In the spirit of the festivities, Star lager beer, Nigeria’s favourite beer, treated the citizens of Gboko, Benue State to a yuletide surprise. Star brought Nigeria’s king of rap, MI, to the usually sleepy town of Gboko, for the 13th Wilderness Groove Carnival.  The Wilderness Groove Carnival is a special annual celebration of heritage and culture of the Tiv people which holds every Boxing Day in the hinterland of Gboko, Benue State. MI thrilled the crowd which rocked to his sublime lyrics and kept yearning for more. The obviously elated rap impresario thanked Star for “sharing the brightness” with the Gboko indigenes. He added that his presence at the Wilderness Groove Carnival on the platform of Star enabled him connect with some of his fans.

In addition to MI, Star also secured long time traditional hip/hop crooner, Zaaki Adzee to thrill the crowd at the event. The torch light wielding artiste did not disappoint the crowd. Upcoming acts and local talents were also afforded the opportunity of flaunting their talent on stage. The event also featured dance, comedy, music, raffle draws, among other fascinating sessions. Individuals went home with several prizes including motorcycles, KVA generators, flat screen TV sets, deep freezers, live cow, live turkeys, bags of rice, gallons of vegetable oil, and other branded consolation prizes among others.

Speaking at the event, the Brand Manager – Star, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mr. Omotunde Adenusi, described the event as a success. He added that the event was conceived to bond, not only with the people of Gboko but also consumers from other parts of the State. “Star lager beer takes its consumers very seriously whether they are in the rural or in the urban areas. This is just one of the ways in which Star seeks to connect with the rural people not only of Gboko but the entire part of Benue State because we had people coming in from other parts of the state,” he said. He further assured that Star would continue to identify and celebrate the heritage of the Nigerian people wherever they are. Adenusi added: “As Africans, our language, culture, dance and other traditional identities, which set us apart from other nations, should be celebrated.” Star lager beer has been involved in the sponsorship of community festivals across the country in line with the brand’s objective to reinforce bonding with various grass root communities in Nigeria.  The 2011 editon of the Gboko Wilderness Groove was sponsored by Star lager beer.
