Nov. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Choosing floor tiles has many aspects to it and there are lots of things to consider, for kitchen floor areas, the floor tile material has to be a large consideration because it is a high traffic area and any floor tiles need to be able to withstand this. Most floor tile options are in that category because they are generally denser and are able to cope with heavy floor traffic but the floor tile material you choose will also add to the floor tile style you end up with. In general, ceramic floor tiles, porcelain floor tiles and many natural stone floor tiles are all very popular materials for floor tile styles and there are plenty of styles to choose from. The budget you are working with is also really important because natural stone floor tiles will be more expensive, this is due to their material and the extra expense of installing them because they are a heavier floor tiles. Many home owners who select natural stone floor tiles do however feel the extra expense is worth the finished result because they are beautiful floor tile solutions.

The second aspect is the pattern or colour of the floor tiles, this choice is largely down to personal choice and the design and floor tile styles you want. Aspects to be taken into consideration are the furniture in the room, whether it is dark or light, the wall tiles decoration and the natural light in the room. The choices range from plain floor tile designs or incorporating different patterns such as the diamond pattern in the centre of the floor area in different floor tile colours. Having the same floor tile colour over the large expanse of the floor and incorporating extravagant border tiles around the edges of the floor tile design. Installing multi sized floor tiles is also an option and this can be done using different sized tile combinations, either in a two sized tile combination or a three or four sized floor tile combination. This can be especially unique if natural stone floor tiles are used because each tile has its own characteristics and this only adds to the design style.

The natural light in the room is not always something we immediately take into consideration but should. If the room doesn’t have a lot of natural light, extra consideration should be made to the colour of the floor tiles to ensure that the room doesn’t end up a feeling too dark.  The furniture and other wall tile styles also need to be considered to ensure the floor tile colour and style work well with the existing decor.

Many floor tiles will need sealing, especially if natural stone floor tiles are uses because this protects them from damage. Many ceramic floor tiles and porcelain floor tiles will not require sealant but always ensure that you check because there are exceptions to the rule, with some ceramic and porcelain floor tiles requiring sealing.  Sealing floor tiles not only protects the tile material but also the grout because the grout needs protecting from damage and sealant will provide a protective layer over the floor tile material. Sealant will need reapplying after some time and you should consult the tile manufacturer and the tile store you purchased them from.
