Aug. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Middle Caicos Summer Enewsletter: A brief introduction to the events of the late spring, summer and fall of 2011on the peaceful island of Middle Caicos, Turks & Caicos Islands

JUNE : Middle Caicos Co-op Artisan celebration
It a fabulous day in Conch Bar village when over 50 Middle Caicos Co-op artisans and volunteers came together to celebrate the MCCO-op, their work and each other! The compound by the seashore buzzed with a general meeting in Daniel’s Café to review the history since 1998, discuss the current situation and make plans for 2012. In the actual studio outlet the newly donated commercial sewing machine was at work, with clutch bags and change purses from locally woven plait under production. Next door the realty firm Forbes, Forbes & Forbes Ltd. donated their office for an exhibit centre. For many artisans it was the first time to see each others handwork and share design tips together. With a great lunch donated by Daniels Café, a fine day was had by all.

JUNE : CRABFEST
A new annual festival for Middle Caicos has been brought alive! CRABFEST was a huge success, lots of fun, lots of people, lots of food, lots of music…and a welcome addition to the attractions of Middle Caicos. The committee deserves serious congratulations – transport was a snap with ferry/bus combo tickets, tents were on site for shade, food vendors all showed up with crab delicacies, live music from three bands/artists!! It began early on the beach with activity from 10 am and wound up late afternoon. Plan now to be here next year in June for the second annual CRABFEST!

SUMMER HOLIDAYS for Daniel Café and Middle Caicos Co-op
Our annual summer shut down is for roughly six weeks this year – giving Sara & Daniel a chance to get away together, visit family in Canada and go fishin’!
   CLOSING :    Friday August 19th    at 4pm
   OPENING :    Tuesday October 4th at 11am
Please note special closing October 20th-24th for Daniel’s daughter’s wedding!!!!!

NEW ACTIVITIES COMING THIS FALL
Guided Crossing Place Trail  hikes : Every Tuesday morning – depart from Mudjin    Harbour cave top patio at 8:30 am, return by noon.  Nominal    donation to CPT trail clearance please. Guided hikes anytime on    request for groups of 5 or more $ 100.

MCCo-op Studio comes alive : Make your own handcrafts :One day workshops offered on Saturdays from 10-4, working with different    handcrafts. Create your own special gift during your stay on Middle    or North Caicos : Fanner grass basket workshops , Seaglass/Sea shell jewellery workshops, Plait bags /hats workshops, model sailboat workshops. Custom design work accepted.

Daniels Café : Take Away and Specials
Take away is now available on Tuesday, Thurday and Saturday evenings. Call in your order by 4 pm, pick up 6-7 pm. Delivery available  
Tuesdays – Go Conch!! fritters,chowder,burgers,steamed,cracked
Thursday – Grilled chicken!  fresh ½ hens on the BBQ, cornbread too.
Saturday – Lobster night!! Lobster bisque, Lobster salad, Garlic Lobster
Sunday brunch – Lobster omelettes, Steamed fish ‘n grits

NOVEMBER : Middle Caicos Exposed photo exhibit
Stunning black & white photographs capture the lifestyle and dignity of Middle Caicos : the people, the land, the churches, the crafts, the seas. Siri White brings her collection to the Conch Bar Community Centre for a four day show

DECEMBER : Christmas beach party on Bambarra beach, WEDNESDAY 28TH!!! HO-HO-HO and a lot of fun for all : local band, native food, model sailboat racing, kayak racing, handcrafts and more. Ferry/bus combo tickets from Provo and local bus for North & Middle Caicos available. Church groups cook & raise funds for their projects-call 231-4884 for details.

JANUARY : New Years Day Dinner Extravaganza @ Daniels Cafe : The second annual New Year's Day lobster dinner extravaganza in on - reserve early! A five course dinner, with wine/soft drinks, elegantly served , featuring lobster bisque and garlic lobster tails. FEBRUARY :: Valentines Day Cup Model Sail Races   Come and celebrate the day, learn about this fantastic traditional sport, try out your skills, enjoy local cooking! MIddle Caicos Co-op is located in the Turks & Caicos Islands, a not for profit operation to preserve and promote traditional culture and heritage. The open studio in Conch Bar showcases the crafts made in TCI and provides a production space for the artisans. Established in 1998 with 6 artisans and four volunteers, the Middle Caicos Co-op today is proud of its success in providing sustainable income to the artisans and encouraging the traditional handcrafts of Turks & Caicos Islands. Over 40 local artisans contribute their handcrafts , paid on delivery, and the MCCo-op markets their work through wholesale and retail outlets across TCI.
