Directrooms.com – Heidelberg castle burns with simulated fire on 3 September 2011

Aug. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- On 3rd September 2011, the castle will be illuminated with an impressive technical light show to recreate the sense that the ruins are on fire and afterwards an extensive fireworks display will explode over the city.

Heidelberg’s history has had an unfortunate association with fire as several times in its past the city has nearly been toppled during wars. The castle was actually blown up by a French General over the course of the 30 Years’ War but the city’s ability to rebuild is widely celebrated during the festivities and the displays are a remembrance of this.

Before the main spectacle, visitors can attend a festive concert taking place on Market Square in the Church of the Holy Spirit which starts at 18:15. The fireworks start from 22:15 and among the best views are from the river by the South bank at Neckarstaden or the North bank at Neuenheimer Landstrasse.
