La Trobe University, Australia opens opportunity for Indian Nurses to practice in Australia

The Faculty of Health Sciences of La Trobe University runs an Initial Registration for Overseas Nurses (IRON) Program. This Program is for the Nurses who are qualified and registered to practice in their own country, seeking to register and practice in Australia. This opportunity will be open to all the Nurses who meet the entry requirements.

Ms. Lynette Chambers, Manager, International Programs, Faculty of Health Sciences at La Trobe University, Australia says “We at La Trobe are proud of the fact that the IRON program has been an outstanding success. The program is 13 weeks duration including 3 weeks of theory and 10 weeks of clinical practice. We expect that Indian Nurses will make the most of this opportunity offered through the IRON program. The total Fee for the IRON program is AUD$ 9,900.

The IRON program provides an introduction to nursing in Australia and a supported transition into the professional context and clinical setting in which you will practice. Clinical practice will be undertaken in both a non-acute environment (40 hours) and in an acute medical/surgical environment (up to 360 hours)
Participants who successfully complete the IRON program will attain the necessary competencies, as defined by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) for registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia. The Registration Authorities for the program are the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) under the umbrella of the Australia Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Candidates will apply in the first instance to NMBA /AHPRA for approval to undertake the course. Full details including the application form is available at www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/forms.aspx
Once NMBA/AHPRA approves the application to undertake an IRON program and pre - approval for registration, an application is then made to the University to undertake the program. Applications can be submitted to La Trobe University online at  www.Latrobe.edu.au/international/apply
