Blogger Calls www.i-CityMall.com A Scam, Gets Sued for RM1.6 Million in Return

Subsequently penned an opinion piece, in which it claims being called a ‘scam’ is humiliating and as everyone knows, suing a blogger for RM1.6 is always a surefire way to get things ‘fixed’ for the reputation damages and declining sales.

May 2, 2011 - PRLog -- A Singaporean studio equipment importer and digital electronics device supply chain marketer, NextCom Studio Technologies, is filing a RM1.6 million lawsuit against a Malaysian Internet blogger, Haridas Saminathan, 24, for allegedly defaming them on several forum discussion. The company’s Head of IT Networking & Development Director, Kelvin Low said the writ of summons was filed at the High Court registrar here in April 2011.

NextCom Studio Technologies claimed that Haridas had defamed the company in his statement of claim that was posted on forum discussion by stating the website owned by NextCom Studio Technologies, www.i-citymall.com as an online scam.
The company noticed its website is being defamed by the blogger for labeling www.i-citymall.com as a ‘scam’ when several phone calls from the customers asking for order cancellations after confirming their purchase on the same day. When it happened repeatedly, NextCom Studio Technologies had contacted the forum administrators to monitor the activity and collect information from the false allegation posts in forums.

NextCom Studio Technologies subsequently penned an opinion piece, in which it claims being called a ‘scam’ is humiliating, equivalent to being labelled as an online pickpocket or con artist. This morning, the company announced it is suing Haridas for RM1.6 million (in the post written documents). NextCom Studio Technologies is clearly irked when Haridas  refused to take off his posts. In his recent post, he said “What’s the big deal? It’s just a stupid online website to scam people!”

On the other hand, the blogger constantly bombarded several other forums with www.i-citymall.com name as discussion topic and reply posts came from anonymous users who provokingly accused the website as a scam.

“It’s not just about a discussion issue, either,” Kelvin Low goes on to say. “Haridas is actively contradicting his ‘slandering mastermind’ to humiliate and accuse the www.i-citymall.com as a fraud when the company launched its clearance sale on audio equipment. On one hand, he never had experience of buying from www.i-citymall.com to proof his accusations. On the other, he spread the doubts by warning people not to buy from www.i-citymall.com by constantly bombarded discussion forum with several false accusations and wrong interpretation of how the website operates.

This also runs in direct contradiction with labelling a scammer. The fact that he was found accusing several other e-commerce companies as scams is caused by his personal threat for becoming an ‘angry competitor’.

According to the press release, www.i-citymall.com is a 2010 newly launched e-catalogue in conjunction of partnership between NextCom Studio Technologies with several local and international distribution companies and had over 200,000 registered users in Malaysia and Singapore. It operates as an e-commerce warehousing platform to promote their inventories.

And as everyone knows, suing a blogger for RM1.6 is always a surefire way to get things ‘fixed’ for the reputation damages and declining sales.
