March 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Edmonton, AB- As people sit glued to their televisions watching the terrifying events in Japan unfold, they are faced with stark reminders of their own mortality and just how fleeting this life can be. Events like these bring up fears that most of us quickly brush aside. But for Edmonton spoken word artist Corey Hamilton, these are precisely the kinds of feelings he thinks people should exploring in order make sense of, and give meaning to, the world.

It’s the kind of intense self-reflection that Hamilton never shies away from, and his latest book of poetry and social commentary, 2 Days, is a testament to that. A well-recognized poet and artist in the Edmonton community, his tenth book of poetry and commentary represents over twenty years of critical creative analysis of a variety of social issues like racism, gender, and politics.

“If you ask me, not enough people ask the deep and dark questions – the questions about what lies at the base of our souls, what motivates our actions,” Hamilton explains. “We are in the midst of what could be one of the greatest disasters of our time and this is certainly not the time to sit back and avoid asking those big questions. I have no doubt that recent events on the other side of the world will continue to affect my own work – and I think that’s what the creative process is about and, for that matter, what being human is about.”

2 Days launches at Greenwoods Book Store on March 30th, and an exposition of his visual art work is on display at Steeps Tea on Whyte Avenue (11116 82 Ave) until March 31st. Corey Hamilton’s website, www.dramaticsituations.com, hosts up-to-date work visual and written work from the artist.
