Ottawa Fashion Week Speaks The Truth And Brings Social Issues To The Runway

March 15, 2011 - PRLog -- OTTAWA – MARCH 14, 2011 - Africa’s Children-Africa’s Future (AC-AF) and Ottawa Fashion Week (OFW) proudly present Walk the Truth a gala to raise funds which will help to ensure that orphans and vulnerable children who have been affected by HIV and AIDS are given the opportunities to go to school, to have a chance at a real childhood and to grow up into well-rounded adults.

The gala promises to unite people from the fashion, business, and not-for-profit sectors to draw attention to a cause that often gets forgotten in our daily lives.

Walk The Truth charity fashion show will take over the National Art Gallery for one special night featuring amazing and emerging talent from fashion, art and entertainment.

“We wanted to create a campaign that engages multiple sectors, reflects the ideas of children in our programmes and is ultimately inspiring and empowering for everyone,” said Gita Jaffe, executive director of AC-AF. “With Walk the Truth, we now have a platform to communicate the impressions and perceptions that the children [in our programmes] have about HIV and AIDS through the vision and skill of all of the fabulous designers who have generously donated their time and resources.”

The event will help raise money for HIV awareness, education and prevention programs and provide educational opportunities, support and care for vulnerable children and youth.

“This show will allow attendees to see the issues and connotations  surrounding HIV and AIDS through new perspectives and understanding,” said designer and event organizer Shaun Marq. “I hope to make an impact on everyone in attendance with what we have planned, and I cannot wait for the next phase in the campaign.”
