Over 100 Nominees Compete in 5th International ICT Awards

Nominations for the 5th International ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Awards has swelled to more than 100 companies and individuals. Winners for the 8 award categories will be announced March 31, 2011 at the Dusit Thani Hotel Makati.

March 12, 2011 - PRLog -- The International ICT Awards seeks to recognize the outstnding performance and contributions of individuals and organization in branding the Philippines as among the world’s BPO destinations of choice. More importantly, it aims to fan the flame of inspiration so participants and players in the industry will always be on the lookout for innovations that will best current practices and propel ICT in the country to new heights of efficiency and effectiveness.

“With the sheer number of Filipino already employed by BPOs today, estimated to increase yet again with the absorption of this year’s graduates and to support expansion, there can be no denying the role we play in nation building. We take that role seriously and we are committed to work together in friendly competition that will only encourage greater efficiency,” said BPAP President and CEO Mr. OScar Sanez.

CAnCham Executive Director Mr. Sean Georget said, “I believe the Philippines has yet to maximize its potential in the BPO industry. Clearly, local talent can command the English language very well. And, as outsourced functions continue to expand from voice-only to non-voice solutions and other core business functions like accounting, creatives, legal, audit and others, the potential just keeps on growing.”

Earlier this year, the Department of Labor and Employment already mentioned that at least 84,000 positions will be up for grabs in the BPO industry. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has been put to the task of training prospective BPO employees to help fill the vacancies.

International ICT Awards Chair, Mr.Richard Mill is pleased with the growth by which the volume of nominations increase every year. He said, “the increasing participation of individuals and companies reinforce the relevance of the international ICT Awards. Over the last 5 years, we have not seen a single company dominate even an award category. This clearly says that no company or individual desiring an award can rest on his laurels!”
