Feb. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Members and guests of The Legacy at Willow Bend, Plano’s first and only life care retirement community, recently celebrated the Chinese New Year with members of the U.S.–China Chamber of Commerce. The evening included Chinese cultural dances performed by The Jasmine Dance Troupe, a fashion show, and an authentic Chinese dinner prepared by Executive Chef James Rowland.

Dinner included chop sticks, fortune cookies, and a $1 lottery scratch-off inside a traditional Chinese red envelop representing good luck in the New Year.

“The evening was full of entertainment,” said Lisa Harris, lifestyle and member assistance coordinator, The Legacy at Willow Bend. “It was fun for all of us to experience another culture’s customs and traditions, and our members had a blast mingling with the dancers and performers.”

The Jasmine Dance Troupe is led by Professor Lanwei Ji, who is the former director and professor of the Dance Research Department of the Central University for Nationalities in Beijing, the most reputable academy in Chinese Folk Dance. The troupe’s goals include the preservation and promotion of the art of Chinese dance, and the celebration of diversity within the American culture.
