Type of Websites, Which Website Suits Best Your Requirement?

Do you want one that is personal or to promote a business or product or just to voice an opinion or per sway others to see something in a different light or to sell something (see more on this on the ecommerce page) because on the internet you can have almost any type of website you want.

Then you need to decide how you are going to acheive the type of website you want. Is it going to be a static or dynamic website ?

Static websites

An static website is a set of static pages linked together and the page is created as a file and saved locally on a computer or a server. Every time a change is needed the html file needs to be re-open, edited and saved.
Which can be perfect for Small Companies and Professionals and small budget companies promoting their products and services.

In order to modify a static website's content html knowledge is desirable, but not necessary, an WYSIWYG html editor can be used to manage the content.

generally the number of pages to consider to effectively manage an static website is around 20. To manage a larger amount of pages a dynamic website will more appropriate.

Dynamic Websites

A dynamic website on the other hand uses programming in addition to the traditional html to not only allow the flow of data in and out of the site and this data can be used to govern the page content "dynamically".

For example an online business directory may have a facility for businesses to sign up and create profiles for their businesses that are displayed on the website. Visitors to the site may then search the directory based on their needs for example a user may search for a dog walking business in their city or suburb. with all of this interaction, content creation and search responses occuring automatically because the websites is "dynamic" requiring no interaction from any one but the "users".

More and more dynamic websites are allowing their owners to upload information on their own through dynamic "content management systems" which do not require knowledge about HTML or websites design to update or maintain content on a site.

In the first instance a business owner would require a graphic designer and web developer (these 2 roles could be filled by one individual or a business) to prepare the website and content managment system but then the owner is free to make changes as they feel neccessary for no extra cost.
There are several other factors that will determine if you need a static or dynamic site.
Your budget is one as dynmaic websites cost alot more than static sites in the first instance.
What purpose will your site serve?
How frequently will your content need to be updated.
If you were leasing a small unit on Australia's Gold Coast you might only need to show a few pictures, provide rates and contact info and therefore because the content is ont changing then a static site would do. but if you were a real estate agent and needed to update your listings frequently, a dynamic website would be your best option.

Dynamic websites are not without their challenges: good programmers are harder to find than good designers often requiring one or more people to be involved in the design of a dynamic site. When considering a programmer or developer as they are often referred to as, ask to see examples of previous work and other testimonials.

While dynamic websites generally cost more because of their complexity, they can be a more cost effective in the long run.

A dynamic website is the most effective solution for sites with content requring frequent updates and/or interaction with the visitors.
