Sept. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- So many people have been affected by the scams of the moving industry and yet little has been done to protect consumers who have fallen prey to the scammers themselves. Unfortunate there are little to no government agencies that are willing, capable or care enough to address this long time and ever growing problem.

If you have never heard of a moving scam or known anyone that has been swept away by one that it is important that you read this in its entirety and do further research before you ever plan your move or hire a moving company.

FIRST - Never under any circumstance accept a bid from a moving company that has not been to your house and given you some sort of a written estimate that includes ALL charges and leaves nothing to chance.

BUT this alone will not be good enough

SECOND - Never hire a company that you have not thoroughly researched, this is probably the single most important thing you could ever do. Please look for the following information when doing your research -
- How long has the company been around - if less then 2-3 years, Be Cautious
- Complaint history - Google search should give you plenty of info
- DOT history - take a look and see detailed history
- Insurance certificates - are they current, how long have they had that company, call and verify
- Google search for the company and see what comes up, be targeted in your search terms to include Company, City, State, DOT registration #, etc. try something like this http://door2doormovingcoscam.com/?page_id=32

THIRD - If you ever feel uncomfortable during the process cancel the mover and find the right solution for you, don't just trust anyone with your personal belongings and family heirlooms. If they try and charge you some fee to cancel call the police are tell them to take a hike. If you do have to pay $150 or so to get rid of them it will be the best $150 you have ever spent.

If they show up in a truck that doesn't have their name plastered all over it - BEWARE

If you want to see it your goods again invest the time and do the research!

Its recommended that you talk to friends, family, co-workers, anyone and everyone that you can possibly talk to to get their recommendations etc. Don't try and be a lone ranger, that's what friends and family are for.

Good Luck
