MOL Bulk Shipping chooses the KSD Security Control System (SCS) to handle ICS filing in Europe

KSD Software is delighted to announce the agreement with MOL Bulk Shipping (Car & RoRo Division) to support their security filing in Europe

Aug. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- KSD is developing the SCS system to include all 29 countries in Europe who are part of the Security Zone which also give MOL Bulk Shipping the flexibility to call in other countries than the 6 initially required by MOL, should the need arise.

Gordon Pow, Business Systems Manager, MOL Car & RoRo Division: “As a Carrier with a lean resourcing principle, the EU Advanced Security Filing initiative provided us with a big challenge. To directly deal with 29 countries’ individual interpretation of the ruling and their differing EDI communication protocols, along with the sheer scale of keeping abreast of compliance issues would be a significant workload and
a distraction from our core activities.

The obvious choice for MOL Car Carrier was to work with a third party, rather than attempt a solution directly. Working with KSD allows MOL Car Carrier to leverage KSD’s knowledge, expertise, experience and existing contacts within the European customs arena. This provides us with the added value, to provide
a timely and cost effective solution for the EU ICS initiative”.

Briefly about ICS and EXS
All carriers (ships, planes and trucks) of goods entering or leaving the EU, Switzerland and Norway will by the end of 2010 be obliged to pre-alert all shipments in advance through the ICS/EXS regulations. The pre-alert varies depending on mode of transportation, goods type and exporting country. This is a major change for carriers and the complexity increases as each carrier has to deal with the authorities in many different countries where they have the first entry point or loading goods to exit the area. KSD already have agreements with customers that will result in one solution covering all 29 countries. The KSD SCS solution will naturally also benefit companies who have a need for Advance Cargo Declaration in one or
a few countries.
