July 21, 2010 - PRLog -- ROD HARRISON PERFORMS LORD BUCKLEY
AT LINCOLN CENTER’S OUT OF DOORS FESTIVAL

New York, NY: Theater Grottesco ensemble member Rod Harrison will perform his interpretation of the infamous Lord Buckley at the 27th Annual Roots of American Music Festival at Lincoln Center Out Of Doors on Sunday, August 1st at 6pm.

Lord Buckley, an entertainer best known for his "hipsemantic" translations of Bible stories, Shakespeare soliloquies and historical figures, performed his scandalous and clever monologues in Chicago and New York speakeasies and nightclubs, made appearances with Ed Sullivan and created a cult following that has lasted decades after his death in 1960. Buckley’s style combined scat, black jive, and the King's English to create riveting performances such as The Nazz, The Hip Gahn and The Bad Rapping of the Marquis de Sade.

On August 1st Rod Harrison, along with David Johansen of New York Dolls and Buster Poindexter fame, Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles, and Steve Cuiffo as Lenny Bruce will perform in the program Dig: Their Royal Hipness at the Damrosch Park Bandshell.

Rod Harrison is an actor, comedian, dancer and emcee based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In addition to his work with Theater Grottesco, Rod has performed all over Santa Fe and regionally with the Dandelion Dance Theater and at the Public Theater in New York.

“There's a new cat on the scene that is turning more than a few wigs, heating a few lobes and popping more than a few peepers with his gasser of an interpretation of The Great Cat. Rod Harrison’s interpretation of Lord Buckley is filled with equal parts of power and nuance. He's got the chops, beloveds, so dig him deeply." -Michael Monteleone: www.lordbuckley.com
