Jay Jenkins (born October 12, 1977) better known by his stage name Young Jeezy, is an American rapper and member of the hip hop group United Streets Dopeboyz of America (USDA) and a former member of Boyz n da Hood.

He is a personal friend of Atlanta rapper Yung Joc. After Hurricane Katrina, Jeezy opened his house to the victims in an effort to help them have a place to stay. In October 2005, the mother of his 9 year old son used this as the basis to petition for child support. Early in the year, Jenkins had claimed that he had little income and no assets. He claimed he didn't even have a house.

Music career:

Atlanta-based Young Jeezy originally planned on entering the music industry as a businessman, not as a rapper. Years before making his first album, released in July 2005 he set up Corporate Thugz Entertainment and promoted Cash Money releases. From there, he branched out as a label boss and artist in his own right, releasing albums and mixtapes. Come Shop wit' Me, his independently distributed debut from 2003, sold more than 50,000 copies. As a member of Boyz N da Hood, he was behind a self-titled album that debuted in the Top Ten of the Billboard album chart. Driven by the hit "Soul Survivor," eventually did even better, nestling at the number two spot in the Billboard 200. The Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102 followed in late 2006, and by that point, Jeezy had become one of the most prominent MCs. In 2007 he introduced his U.S.D.A. crew with the album Cold Summer, and then returned to his solo career a year later with the politically minded The Recession.

Legal Problems:

On March 11, 2006, Jeezy was arrested after an alleged shooting involving some of his friends in Miami Beach, Florida. He was charged with two counts of carrying a concealed firearm without a permit. However, prosecutors dropped his charges two months later over lack of evidence. On September 29, 2007, Jeezy totaled his Lamborghini when it was hit by a taxi outside of Justin's, Sean Combs’ restaurant in Atlanta. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported his claim that this gave him "a new appreciation for life". In Atlanta on June 18, 2008, police arrested him for Driving under the influence of alcohol.
