July 6, 2010 - PRLog -- There are many ways to get a free credit report out there, but very few of these include the backbone of the report- the score. While a credit report includes all information, good and bad, that the bureaus know about someone, the score is what lenders really look at.

Aurora Lillo Editor of the "Get MY Credit Report" website -- http://www.GetMyCreditReport.biz -- pointed out;

“...Therefore, here are three steps that one can take to see their credit scores for free, online, from the comfort of one's own home.

1) Look at the many websites available

There are many websites available that can help one see his or her credit score for free. Some of the most popular include freecreditreport.com and creditreport.com. These websites have a variety of sources that one can use, including the ability to see a credit report that includes the score, which is far superior to the government-sponsored Annual Credit Report program...”

2) Pick a website

This is harder than the previous site. The websites vary widely in a number of features. First, some websites have free trials, allowing one to see his or her credit score for free at least once. Some websites require that one signs up before he or she can see anything, which can be very unattractive to some people. A good way to quickly eliminate a number of websites is to check their rating with the Better Business Bureau. This can tell you much about the customer service experience that previous users have had and give you more information about what you are paying for. For the most part, however, these sites are very trustworthy.

3) Give the required information

“...This is where a lot of people stop. For obvious reasons people don't like to give out their personal information online, and most of these websites will require a Social Security Number, credit card information, name, address, and other personal information. Unfortunately, this is simply required for these sites to know what credit record they should access. It is highly unlikely that a company that has all positive ratings previously will turn out to be malicious. therefore, as long as one is giving this information over a secure connection on encrypted wifi, it is safe. Furthermore, not knowing one's credit score is at least as dangerous as sharing this information online. By sharing this information, in essence one is protecting it...” added A. Lillo.
