June 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Workshops which help children come to terms with their parents divorce are being backed by a leading family law specialist.

The Living with Separated Parents sessions, being run in Hertfordshire in July and August by Kids Coach Naomi Richards, are designed for children aged between six and 12 whose parents are going through a divorce, or who have recently split up.

Family law specialists Woolley & Co are sponsoring five free places on the workshops for clients whose children might be suffering from a loss of confidence, experiencing behavioural difficulties or simply finding it difficult to come to terms with their parents splitting up.

It is part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to offer support for families beyond their legal services.

“When a couple separate or divorce, there are numerous considerations and worries they face.  For parents, concern about their children’s well-being is paramount, but it’s often difficult from them to help when they themselves are upset or angry.  These workshops provide an opportunity for children to discuss the implications of mum and dad living apart,” said Andrew Woolley, managing partner with Woolley & Co.

“They address the change in lifestyle that it brings and how children can adjust to the change. There’s also an opportunity to talk about new partners, step-parents and extended families.

“We feel workshops like this offer huge help to some children. We wanted to get involved as part of our ongoing commitment to offer a service beyond the legal side of divorce. We are also looking at other ways of offering support for couples splitting up with the overall aim of changing the way people separate, to remove the concept of blame and minimise disruption to the family.”

The sessions are being run by experienced children’s coach Naomi Richards, known as The Kids Coach.

“When parents separate their children experience lots of change. For some this can result in lost confidence, for others it can be the onset of behavioural difficulties,” said Naomi.

“I work with children on a daily basis and have developed these specialised sessions for kids who are, or have, experienced their parents splitting up. Using role play, games and discussion, the workshops look at finding ways of resolving the issues each child faces.”
