Taliban Funded By US Military

June 26, 2010 - PRLog -- After a six month study, it has been disclosed that the U.S. military have been ‘donating’ tens of millions of dollars to Afghanistan security firms, who are passing the money onto warlords.

Supply vehicles, heading in to the American troops, purportedly pay security firms, in order to guarantee their sound passage in treacherous regions of Afghanistan.
If payments are not made the convoys are attacked, according to allegations in an American military document.

Bribes are allegedly paid to the Taliban and almost every individual governor, local military commander and police chief whose territory the convoys pass across. The paper claims that vehicles carrying ammunition, fuel, water and food may be paying up to $4 million (£2.7m) per week to the firms, in a huge protection racket.

The report says that "although the warlords do provide guards and coordinate security, the contractors have little choice but to use them in what amounts to a vast protection racket".
One of the security companies is reported to be owned by two cousins of Afghanistan’s President, Hamid Karzai.

The security agreements break laws on the use of private contractors, as well as American’s Department of Defense regulations.

One of the largest security providers in Afghanistan, Watan Risk management, is one of the companies currently undergoing investigation.

The military report reveals that representatives of the company allegedly dictate, or negotiate the price of safe passage in a particular area. The company then issues warnings to trucking companies who either refuse to pay, or are late in paying the required sum.

Not only is money from the United States tax payer being used to sponsor the enemy, but also to undermine international efforts towards stabilizing the country.

The question is, Will General Petraeus do things any differently, now that President Obama has fired the ‘loose-lipped’ General Stanley McChrystal, as Afghanistan Commander?

All this comes at a point when Pakistan and Afghanistan are privately hoping to create a peace treaty with the insurgents and Afghanistan is playing Russian roulette with the latest findings of its astounding mineral wealth.
