Tripoli, Libya: The premier E-Governance event was held on June 1-4 in Tripoli. The Executive Director discussed various models of Public Private Partnerships based on the various organizations she has been involved with including the DotConnectAfrica, which is to host the ".africa" name. The domain name “.africa” with its unique continental vision mirrors the aspirations of the African people for unity across the continent, which the Libyan leadership has often encouraged. The event was widly attended by experts from around the world covering a broad range of topics, Libyan hospitality was on display to all from ancient Roman ruins to modern day Tripoli, which is rapidly becoming a truly international city and a fitting gateway to Africa.
The power of the internet was fully embraced by the participants as a way to improve government services and responsiveness. There was a good balance between the academic and practical approaches to e-Government. A strong focus was made on the health and education sectors as these are vital to the well being of all Africans.
At end of conference, Ms. Sophia Bekele was interviewed by one of the country's leading newspapers, Aljamahiria. Topics covered the conference and aspects of the dotafrica initiative.
