Volcanic Ash and Air Strikes result in bookings rush
By: Peter McKay - McKay Media

May 26, 2010 - PRLog -- Specialist Scottish cruise operators The Majestic Line have seen a recent surge in both enquiries and bookings. This is being attributed to the recent and continuing uncertainty caused by the volcanic ash cloud and strike fears at BA. Clearly, both of these situations have caused widespread disruption in the international travel industry with this situation anticipated to continue.
Majestic Sales Manager Marie Thoms said ‘both online and telephone bookings have gone through the roof since the start of the volcanic ash travel chaos. Anecdotally, clients are telling us that they are concerned about having outward foreign flights cancelled or being stranded abroad. We have also spoken to many people worried about the BA strike situation. UK holiday makers are now looking closer to home and this has resulted in this sudden but very welcome boost to our business’. She continued ‘At this time of year, we have previously offered generous discounts to encourage bookings at a relatively quiet time of year and this year is no exception. Although bookings are now very limited, I’m happy to confirm that we will honour our discounts of a 20% reduction during the months of May and June. We will also maintain our ‘early bird’ discount of 10% for April 2011 holidays providing bookings are made by the end of June this year’.
The Majestic Line operates two boats – The Glen Massan and Glen Tarsan based at the Holy Loch and Oban. Both are easily accessible by road and rail. Both boats are traditionally crafted wooden vessels that have been wonderfully rebuilt and offer superior accommodation for just eleven people – there is always one berth reserved for single travellers at no extra cost. All cabins are en suite and prices are fully inclusive of all food and wine with the exception of spirits. Gastronomy is an important part of the Majestic experience with the on board chef producing wonderful menus of fresh and local produce – seafood is a speciality, especially lobsters which are often freshly caught using the boats own lobster pots.
There are nine cruises to choose from, ranging from three night mini breaks to special wildlife cruises, the new Skye and Inner Hebrides route and the fantastic Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness route, again new for this season. There is even a Taste of Argyll Speciality Food Cruise in September. For larger groups, both boats can be hired as a whole boat charter, which is becoming increasingly popular.
Marie Thoms concluded ‘clearly the current disruption has caused a huge degree of uncertainly throughout the travel industry as a whole. Although we have been inundated, we don’t wish to profit from these unfortunate circumstances and it is for that reason that we have taken the decision to honour all of our generous discount schemes. However, berths are very limited, so I would advise immediate bookings to avoid disappointment’.
