Inter beat Bayern and wins the Champions League Final

May 22, 2010 - PRLog -- After scoring in the defining matches of the Italian Championship and Italian Cup, Diego Milito has once again been instrumental for his club, when this Saturday at the Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid, the Argentine striker scored both goals in Inter Milan’s 2-0 victory against Bayern Munich, which secured an unprecedented historic Triple for the Italian club.

The fourth final of the Champions League played at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, began promptly at 19:45 (GMT). With the possibility of a Triple, both teams adopted a cautious start on a balmy Madrid evening. Bayern Munich had more ball possession, but Inter went into the lead before half time after a nice counter-attack.

In the initial 30 minutes, neither team created any dangerous moves. Bayern’s main attacking plays were created by Arjen Robben, while Inter relied on their powerful defense to put Olic and Müller in check.

The midfield was very congested with the first sign of danger coming from Bayern’s Müller at 10min. On one occasion the German players asked for a penalty, claiming Brazilian defender Maicon had handled the ball.

Internazionale tried to answer back on two occasions by Sneijder’s free kicks, both defended by keeper Butt.  A little later in a moment of weakness by the Italian defense, Olic and Müller made a good move, but Robben missed the target.

At 34 min José Mourinho’s team opened the scoring. Brazilian goalkeeper Júlio César kicked a long punt to Milito who nodded to Sneijder. Leader in assists in the Champions League, the Dutch player made a pinpoint through ball to Milito, who lifted a shot over goalkeeper Hans Joerg-Butt.

In the second half, Bayern started to pressure from the beginning, but the Brazilian keeper Julio Cesar was very secure between the posts and demonstrated why he is one of the best keepers in the world at the moment.

Bayern continued the pressure and twice came close to equalizing through midfielder Thomas Mueller and pacy winger Arjen Robben, but the compact Inter defense and their keeper Júlio César were just too good. At 25min, Milito virtually finished the game off. The Argentine turned defender Daniel van Buyten inside out with a great dribble, then stroked the ball into the far corner to score his sixth goal in the Champions League and wrap up a convincing win for the Italians.

Van Gaal’s men had exhausted their possibilities to try to reverse the scorecard and unable to prevent the third European title for Inter. This was an unforgettable night for Milito. The merited victory also made Inter coach José Mourinho even “more special” becoming the third coach to win the title with two different clubs. Mourinho had won it with in 2004 with FC Porto.

This may have been the last game by Jose Mourinho as the Inter manager. Even though Pellegrini has still not officially been sacked by Real Madrid, Spanish media are convinced that he will be next week, in order to make room for Mourinho. Real finished second behind Barcelona in La Liga, and flopped in the Champions League and the Spanish Cup.
