April 29, 2010 - PRLog -- They provide the public a lot of opportunities to find valuable items at low prices. However, there are risks involved when participating in these auctions. The greatest of these risks is a scam.

Hector Milla Editor of the "Best Government Auctions" website -- http://www.BestGovernmentAuctions.org -- pointed out;

“…Scams are everywhere, and they are continuously proliferating today. They target innocent shoppers and buyers. You'll find scammers in newspaper ads and in the internet, and they're not easy to distinguish from the genuine entities. This is where it gets crucial for people who intend to participate in auctions. One wrong move and you might easily become a victim…”

How U.S. Government Auction Scams Work

Scammers capitalize on the desire of their victims to find great deals. They post misleading advertisements (via flyers or via the internet) to make people believe that they have information about U.S. government auctions. Once the victims are hooked, scammers do either of the following:

1.    They promise the victims a list of upcoming auctions in their area for a fee. Once the victim pays, one of two things can happen:
a.    They don't deliver any list or material to the victims.
b.    They might deliver a list of auctions, but none of them are accessible to the victims. Worse, other materials delivered to the victim may have been charged to them.
2.    They ask victims to sign up for a membership fee, promising them links to sites that contain information regarding U.S. government auctions. Once the victims sign up, they are either:
a.    Provided links to obsolete or outdated websites
b.    Given links to sites with no information about auctions
c.    Linked to sites that are not exclusive at all, but mainly sites that can be freely accessed in the internet

Whichever way scammers work, the end result is the same, the victims had to part with their money without getting anything valuable in return.

How to Find Genuine U.S. Government Auctions

How do you avoid all these auctions scams and know which of the advertisements and sites are genuine? Well, the most important thing is to remember this: you don't have to spend dollars just to find U.S. government auctions. You can find information about them everywhere, with no need for a fee.

“…You can call government agencies to ask about their auctions, or you can visit government websites to view their list. Do not trust sites and ads you're not sure about, or you may end up with a huge problem instead of a huge bargain or deal…” added H. Milla
