Robin Pilcher Launches His New Book At Waterstone’s, Dundee

Scottish writer, Robin Pilcher, author of four New York Times best sellers, launches his latest book, ‘A Matter of Trust’, at Waterstone’s Dundee on Monday 19th April.

April 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Pilcher will be in the Dundee store from 6:30 to 8:30 pm to sign copies of his book, which has been simultaneously published in the USA as ‘The Long Way Home’.

The story, set between New York and Scotland, tells of a young girl Claire Barclay whose love affair ends suddenly without explanation.  Her ambitions take her on a journey across the world ending up in the vibrant American city where with her husband Art, their successful Restaurant business is launched.  The sudden death of her mother, turns Claire’s attentions back home and a series of unexpected events unravels……”with his Scottish sensibility and captivating wordplay, Pilcher is able to craft a fine and fulfilling novel.” (Booklist).

Shortbread Stories, the free upload/download website for short stories in text and audio, will be officially launched the same day.  A worldwide platform for unpublished writers, it aims to foster creativity and encourage discussion and feedback, in a way that used to be traditional in the publishing industry.  Founded by Robin Pilcher and businessman William Thomson, over a year ago, it already has over 4000 members worldwide and a database of over 850 stories.  Audio downloads of the best 70 stories are also available.

“A few years ago, I attended a writer’s workshop at a literary weekend in Glasgow and was bowled over by the quality of writing that was on offer,” says Pilcher.  “Every story was worthy of being published, but I knew that, at the end of that weekend, most of them would probably be shoved away in a bottom drawer and forgotten about.  I left determined to find a way to let those voices be heard.”  Shortbread’s social networking site is coming soon.

ABOUT SHORTBREAD STORIES

Shortbread stories is a FREE community website dedicated to revitalising the short story.  For writers, it provides a worldwide showcase for their work, and for readers, it offers free access to short stories which can be read as text or, if voted for by members, listened to as an audio file.

Today there is little opportunity for the publication of short stories.  There are fewer short story magazines and anthologies being produced and yet this is a genre which appeals to an increasing number of writers both new and established.  By using http://www.shortbreadstories.com, budding authors are able to present their stories to a global audience.

There are no geographical boundaries and submissions are encouraged from all age groups from 12 years upwards.

Robin co-founded Shortbread stories with William Thomson, a successful business man who has worked in the shipping industry, and more recently has been involved in the development of start-up companies.  He is currently chairman of a publishing company and a trustee of the Pushkin Prize for Children’s Literature.

The Editor is Fiona Smith who joined the team in August 2008 to co-ordinate all aspects of the website.  Fiona is an honours graduate in English Literature from the University of Stirling.  She specialises in Creative Writing and has already successfully masterminded the development of a community website for the fashion industry.  For more information on the site, she can be contacted as follows:
