It is estimated 126,000 spinal fusion surgeries occur a year in the USA and since 1996 the number of surgeries has increased 116%. The group that has had the greatest increase in lower back spinal fusion are adults over 60. Lumbar compression fractures, spinal deformities, spondylolisthesis, lumbar instability, disc herniation and degenerative disc disease are common conditions that can lead to lower back spinal fusion.
