KBC Mortgages have recently confirmed that they have confirmed that they are actively seeking opportunities to lend to first time buyers and people looking to switch lenders in the Irish mortgage market.
In exciting news to the Irish mortgage market, KBC see that there will be an increase in lending in the near future and want to establish a lead in the market.
Kevin Keane of Keane Finance Brokers see this as a timely boost to the crippled mortgage market. “This is a boost to the first time buyer in Ireland as it is very difficult to obtain any level of funding in Ireland today. It has come to a stage where people are put off applying for mortgages as there seems to be nobody lending”.
However, KBC see light at the end of the tunnel and the hope is there that more banks will follow in the coming months. This may lead to the start of the recovery because at present it is difficult to get funding at any level.
Keane sees this as the first step, “Hopefully what we are seeing here is a step in the right direct for lending in Ireland. In order to recover somewhat from the situation that we are in, banks need to lend again at some level. This could be the start. Granted it is a foreign Bank as KBC are Belgian owned, but it will help all banks at some stage.”
